Son of Man

Son of Man Jesus often referred to himself as the Son of Man. Born of a human mother, he was a fully human but also fully God. His incarnation meant he came to earth and took on human flesh. He was like us in every way except sin. The title Son of Man goes much deeper, though. Jesus was speaking of the prophecy in Daniel 7:13-14 “I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed In addition, ‘Son of Man’ was a title of the Messiah, the anointed one of God. Jesus is referred to as the “Son of Man” 82 times in the New Testament. God called the prophet Ezekiel “son of man” 93 times. Son of man is simply a term for “human.” Jesus Christ was truly a human being. I John 4:2 “Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:” The Messiah had long been expected, but the high priest and others refused to believe Jesus was that person. Many thought the Messiah would be a military leader who would liberate them from the Roman yoke. They could not grasp a servant Messiah who would sacrifice himself on the cross to free them from the bondage of sin. Jesus is the Second Person of the Trinity, who left heaven’s glory and took on human flesh, becoming the Son of Man, born in a manger and “despised and rejected by mankind”. The Son of Man had “no place to lay his head”. The Son of Man ate and drank with sinners. The Son of Man suffered at the hands of men. This intentional lowering of His status from King of Heaven to Son of Man is the epitome of humility. Philippians 2:6-8 “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” Jesus is the supreme example of all that God intended mankind to be, the embodiment of truth and grace. Colossians 2:9 “For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” For this reason, the Son of Man was able to forgive sins. Mathew 9:6 “But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.” The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath. The Son of Man came to save, rise from the dead, and execute judgment. At His trial before the high priest, Jesus said, as given in Mathew 26:64 “Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.” At this, the priest tore his robe, accusing Jesus of blasphemy. The Son of man is also a title of His deity. Dr Ashwin Drummond Laddertoheaven.co.in
