The Deity of God

The Deity of God A deity is a supernatural being, like a god or goddess, that is worshipped by people who believe it controls or exerts force over some aspect of the world. The word deity means "divine nature." The word “deity” only occurs once in the Greek Scriptures, in Colossians 2:9, where they speak of the entire complement of the Deity “dwelling bodily in Christ.” For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” The word is also “that which pertains to God,” and when we speak of “the deity of God,” it is a way of expressing “the goodness of God”. As we understand it, it is a means of ascribing to God all that is rightly His, whatever field of His operations we may be considering, and, in particular, in attributing to Him all the glory to which He alone is entitled. The Supremacy of God is seen in the very first verse of the Scriptures. Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” This is a simple straightforward verse that acknowledges a) the existence of God b) that he is the supreme creator. c) It also tells us that there is only that one God who created the heavens and the earth. d) It negates fatalism. Fatalism, which says that everything came into being by chance. e) It also contradicts evolution. Evolution, which says that one thing just grew out of another. Evolution debars creation. f) It also does not agree with Pantheism, which makes God and nature one and the same, and finally g) Materialism, which claims that matter is eternal. Thus, God is the without doubt Creator of all that we see. As the Creator God, He demands uncompromised worship. Exodus 20:3 “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” He followed this up by forbidding to make, worship or serve any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven or earth or in the water. That is to say, the Israelites were not to give to any creature the glory and adoration that was due to Him as the Creator. He must be Supreme, and the glory of His supremacy He will not give to another, for all others are creatures, while He alone is the Creator. Romans 1:21-23 “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.” This is the worship of the creature rather than the Creator and is an affront to the deity of God. The Glory that is due to God has to be given to Him. Because of His deity, He has His presence everywhere and has control over everything. God declares His sole deity in Isaiah 46:5 “To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?” Further in Isaiah 45:18, He again declares “For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.” Finally, in Isaiah 42:8 “I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.” The God of the Bible is defined as an eternal, uncreated, and supreme divine being who is the ultimate Creator, Preserver, and Judge of all existence. The deity of the God is an essential doctrine of the Christian faith. It forms the foundation of our faith, specifically regarding our beliefs about salvation, worship, and the nature of God. It informs how we relate to Him through our devotion and shapes our understanding of His authority in our lives. Dr Ashwin Drummond Laddertoheaven.co in
