Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is God. We are introduced to God in the book of John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. ” Further John 1:14 further states “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth..” In Genesis 1:26 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:”

That Word is a full person, the son of God along with the Holy Spirit, known as the Trinity. In the creation account in Genesis 1 “All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made,” clearly distinguishes Jesus as the Creator God. When John writes that “without him was not any thing made that was made”, he asserts that God the Father through the Son is responsible for all that is. Through the Word the Father created. Thus, creation and life came from God’s direct activity in Christ and Life is in him. Jesus as the Word is God, through whom the world was made, in whom is life, and who is the light.

In John 1:14, we learn that the Word became flesh. God became man. Jesus came to this world to pay the penalty of sin and thus became flesh. The penalty of sin was death and only one who was sinless could pay in full for the entire humanity. Jesus died on the cross of Calvary, paid the penalty, and by resurrecting on the third day, defeated death and the devil. This great sacrifice paved the way for the salvation of man, and the promise of eternal life was initiated. After forty days Jesus ascended back to heaven.

Jesus as God has unfretted and unlimited power under heaven and earth. Mathew 28:18 states “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” Thus, Jesus is the God of Gods and King of Kings. He is ultimate and final. Singularly outstanding, Christianity embraces the principle of forgiveness. There is no provision for forgiveness of iniquities and sin in any other belief, as the power to do so is absent. I John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Further Luke 5:20 confirms “And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.” Forgiveness of sin in every dispensation is the prerogative of God and is based on Jesus’ death on the cross. No one, no human, whatsoever has the power and authority to forgive sins.

Jesus is also our intercessor and advocate. The Bible shows us that Jesus speaks to the Father on our behalf. Romans 8:34 states “Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. .” In I John 2:1 we read that Jesus is our “advocate with the Father,” and from Hebrews 7:25 we learn that Jesus “always lives to intercede” for us. Jesus is interceding for us while Satan (whose name means “accuser”) is accusing us, pointing out our sins and frailties before God. I Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus”

When Jesus comes the second time, as the great Judge of all humanity, Jesus will give the reward. To the righteous eternal life and the unrepentant sinners will be cast in the lake of fire to burn forever.
