Testimony
Testimony, as we know is a narration of what took place as an event, experience, or even an encounter. They can be statements made by a witness in court or an account of first-hand experience. In the 19th century, testimonials developed a new use, referring to a tribute—that is, a gift presented as a public expression of appreciation. Today, testimonials are most often used to refer to a statement that endorses a product or service.
During their journey to a saving relationship with Jesus, many people tell the most compelling stories about Him, and their reasons for having faith. If you’re looking for proof of Jesus, ask your peers about their journey with Christ. What they tell you is their Christian testimony: The story of their coming to, or walking alongside, Jesus.
A Christian testimony can be about a person’s journey to becoming a Christian. How one puts his/her faith in the Lord, bringing about a change of heart and in which God has shown up in a person’s life. Perhaps it is a lesson God has taught them or a reminder He gave. Sometimes it’s an answered prayer or a victory over sin. Sometimes it’s a way in which God provides extraordinarily in a tough situation. Luke 8:39 “Return to thine own house, and show how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.”
Every time we tell the story about how we came to have a personal relationship with God, we give honour and glory to God, and He is pleased with that. That story is your Christian testimony: the story about how God has changed your life through a personal relationship with Him.
Mathew 10:32 “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. “It is a spiritual mandatory obligation for all who have changed their lives as a result of their relationship with the Lord, to share such experiences to enable others to also savour the fruits of salvation. II Timothy 1:8 also encourages us to do likewise “Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;”
The greatest testimony is to be a witness to our Lord Jesus by the lives we live, so that all who see also walk in His ways. Mathew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.“ We are to be witness to the world for our Lord. Acts 5:32 “ And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. “
Titus 3:3-7 “For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
